Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.  This statement  was made by Jesus, himself But we use Jesus name also..Why baptize? Jesus commanded it to be so. My definition of Baptism is - by being dunked you are making the statement that you have repented and asked Jesus to come into your heart, save you, and to God that you  believe that the baptism is representing you as being a member of the death and resurrection  of Jesus Christ. The lifting up represents the resurrection. Jesus was our example. He told John that it was necessary Matthew 3:14 But John forbade him, saying ,I have need of being baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15 and Jesus answered and said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: fur thus it behooves us to fulfill all righteousness, then he suffered  him. Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that as many of us as were baptized, into Jesus Christ, were baptized  into his death. Galatians 3:27 For as many of you  as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  Colossians 2:12  Buried with him in Baptism, wherein ye are also risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who's faith raised him from the dead..Now concerning those who have strayed and have returned and repented. We are to do our first works  again. Revelation 2:5  Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent and do your first works, or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, lest ye repent. I know we serve a merciful God , but there comes a time when he says it's enough.  When I came back to the Lord, the Holy Ghost spoke to my heart and said, It's now or never.  I knew this was my last chance and i feared. I asked my husband to take me back to the church. He did. I ran up that flight of stairs and ran to the altar. I didn't get up until all was settled between me and the Lord Jesus.  The pastor Brother Charles Hewett was preaching.  He stopped and we all had a reviving. It is truly a fearful thing to fall in the hands of a living God. Believe me I feared and I was scared, too..Jesus met me there and washed me clean and put a new white robe on me.  I've failed the Lord along the way, but he was with me. I went  to a big tent revival and the preacher said Gennevieve1 I'll never leave you nor forsake you. He never knew it in the natural. He came in the tent while we were praying. No way could he ever known my given name. then a few minutes later he said it again. I guess for conformation. He has kept his promise. Jesus is faithful to keep his word. Praise God!  Genna
