Jesus: Meeting Needs Of His Followers

Adults Class
Scripture References:

John 21:13

Story Summary:

After cooking breakfast for the disciples, Jesus has the opportunity to ask Peter if he loves Him. Peter told Him, "Lord, you know I love You with all my heart."  Jesus said, "feed my lambs."  Again, the second time, Jesus asked, Peter, do you love me?"  Peter told Him, "Lord, you know I have great affection for you." Jesus said, "feed my sheep."  For a third time, Jesus asks Peter, "Peter, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because Jesus asked for three times if he loves Him. Peter replied to Jesus, "Lord, you know all things." You know I am fond of you and am a friend to you." Jesus said, "feed my sheep." Peter had denied Jesus three times during Jesus' trial and now Jesus has him affirm three times that he loves Him because he feels a personal attachment to him. Peter recognizes that as he denied him three times, he affirmed three times that he loves Him as he would love a brother. Jesus then prophesied Peter's death and his manner of dying. Then, Peter wants to know what is going to happen to John. Jesus told him, "if I will that he tarry until I come, what is that to thee?"  This saying gave rise to a rumor that circulated saying that John would live until Jesus returns but John clarified that was not what Jesus actually said. How about you? Have you ever jumped to conclusions?  Have you assumed something that was not intended?  Jesus had to put Peter in his proper place. Does he need to put you in your proper place as a submissive, willing servant? Jesus is pleased when we keep our place before Him. I hope to see you in Sunday School at 10: 00 A.M.
