Pentecost was a feast observed by all Jews and was a celebration of the early Spring Harvest. Men traveled to Jerusalem from every nation to celebrate this feast. Therefore, all languages and dialects were heard here during this time. When the day of Pentecost had fully come, Jesus' disciples had gathered together in the upper room and were of one mind and one accord. This displayed true unity as they were praying and all were anticipating the same outcome. Suddenly there was a sound of a mighty rushing wind that filled the house and cloven tongues of fire sat upon each head. They were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in other languages (tongues) as the Spirit gave them utterance. People were astounded and amazed when they heard these unlearned Galileans speaking in their own language and speaking of the wonderful works of God. Mixed among these who were amazed and astounded, were those who were mockers and said, "they are just drunk." Peter got up and began to speak. He told them these men are not drunk. It is only 9 o'clock in the morning. What you are hearing is what was prophesied in Joel 2:28-29. He then began to preach about Jesus, his affirmation of being the Messiah through the mighty works, miracles, and wonders he performed. He then spoke of His crucifixion, death, and resurrection. He affirmed that God had made Jesus Lord and Christ. He called for repentance for the remission of sins and baptism. Peter told them, then you will receive this gift of the Holy Spirit for the promise is for you, your children, and as many as are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God will call. Have you received this promise? Do you want this promise? If you do you must make sure you are saved and begin to ask Jesus to fill you with the Holy Ghost and He will be faithful to do so.
