Behold: Truth Brings Opposition

Scripture References:

Acts 3: 25

Story Summary:

Peter proclaimed Jesus as the one who fulfilled the promise that God made to Abraham that through his seed all peoples of the Earth would be blessed. The blessing was the fully God, fully human, Jesus the Christ that God sent to provide redemption from our sin debt through the shedding of His blood. We must acknowledge who He is, believe on Him and repent from our sinfulness. As Peter preached the gospel,  the priests, captain of the temple, and the Sadducees were angry that he was preaching resurrection from the dead.  These leaders caused them to be put in jail overnight.  Yet many who heard the word believed. The number of men responding were about five thousand. On the next day, rulers of Israel, elders, scribes, the High Priest Annas, and Rome's puppet, Caiphas, John, Alexander, and all the kindred of the high priest gathered at Jerusalem against them. This controversy had begun when the beggar had been healed when Peter and John were on their way into the temple to pray.  The rulers could not dispute the healing of this man.   These ruling entities asked Peter what name or power was used to heal this man. Peter spoke plainly to them that Jesus of Nazareth, whom they had rejected, was the one  through which the beggar had been made whole. He further preached that only in Jesus was there Salvation. His name was the only name under heaven by which we can be saved. Who or what are you trusting today for eternal life?  I am looking forward to seeing you in Sunday School at 10:00 A.M.
