Stephen, a godly man and full of the Holy Ghost, was chosen by the body to minister to the widows and he also ministered in other ways. He did great wonders and miracles among the people. Everyone began to talk about his ministry and it got the attention of the synagogue of the Libertines which consisted of Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those of Cilicia  and Asia. They began to dispute with Stephen about what he was teaching and doing. They were disputing with him but were unable to defend their position because of the wisdom and spirit by which he spoke. They then caused men to make false accusations about Stephen and accuse him of blasphemy. They said they heard Stephen say that Jesus would destroy Jerusalem and would change the things which Moses taught them to do. Everyone looking at Stephen when these charges were brought against him saw his face and it looked like the face of an angel. How about you? When someone lies about you do you look like an angel? Are you concerned about their well-being and their destiny or do you get angry and wish them harm? Do you allow the love of God to control your responses to things or is your flesh in control?
